Here is the additional information from my recent testing. Reproduction attempt:
After plugging in the monitors, the system locked up. The system did not automatically reboot after 30 seconds. The Alt + SysRq + B key combination did not trigger a reboot during the lockup (the combination had been verified working prior to the freeze). Recovery required holding the power button for approximately 30 seconds. Pstore status: /var/lib/systemd/pstore/ is empty. /sys/fs/pstore/ is empty. Kdump status: /var/crash contains: _usr_bin_wireplumber.60578.crash (dated Feb 9) kdump_lock kexec_cmd No new crash dump file was generated from this event. To answer Stefan Bader’s question regarding multi-monitor testing: The setup uses two displays connected to each other via DisplayPort daisy chain. The first monitor in the chain is connected to the laptop using USB-C. As far as I am aware, this uses DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C. I removed the second monitor from the daisy chain and tested using only the first monitor with the same USB-C cable as before. I connected and disconnected it approximately 30 times, and no lockup occurred during those tests. This setup had been working without issue for over a year and no configuration changes were made. The only change to the laptop (running 24.04) on 2/08/25 was running apt upgrade, which installed the 6.17.0-14-generic kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2141225 Title: Kernel panic when connecting USB-C Dell monitors on Ubuntu kernel 6.17.0-14-generic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe-6.17/+bug/2141225/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
