Den,
Do I need to do step 1) at sea with engines running or can I do this dockside with or without starting engines? Fine drawing, but as you say loose ends. Now just for giggles n grins. 1 open crossover valves,5 and 6, and see if all 4 tanks seek same level. 2 Open crossovers as I am assuming this port, starboard engines. 3 Close 1 and 3 at sea and monitor gauges closely. If you have fuel filter vacuum gauges, monitor and listen for engine starving. I am assuming this will put both engines on one set of tanks. Info from this may help you detail your drawing more. I hope you can contact Florida. Don't worry about getting wet, it comes with the territory. Shut off the AFT tanks. and see if the fuel level changes after a run. Remember that there are supply. and return valves to each tank. Mine is a 48, and I studied the fuel panel for a few days before the lightbulb came on. A labeling exercise soon followed..Take a quad pad below, and draw the system. All valves, and where you think the lines come from. It may help. I have two forward "saddle tanks" of about 68 gallons (I've been told) and two master tanks aft of 182 gallons each. I notice on the fuel gauge the saddle tanks rise and fall as fuel is consumed. That is, the forward tank will read half full, then it will read full and again later back to half full. I assume the excess diesel fuel is being routed to the forward tanks which causes them to fill, but then how do they go back to half full? What mechanism is in place to cause fuel to go one way, then reverse out? I'm confused. Thanks for any explanations.
