If you want a bare minimum system in terms of power consumption etc.
then you need to be prepared to compromise on performance.

I understand that the Buffalo Linkstation, for example, can run
SlimServer but that it's not particularly fast. However, 'not
particularly fast' might be adequate for your usage.

Linkstations are good because they consume little power, they'll spin
themselves down and they'll wake up when accessed.

I use two of them at the moment, but I run my slimserver on a VIA based
PC because I use it for other things such as web browsing, photo
slideshows etc.

I'd recommend you check out the other NAS systems mentioned in these
forums, but bear in mind that you're never going to get a super-fast
system with compromised hardware.
