Just FYI, the power consumption of a mini-itx (15W idle - 30W max) is
very comparable to a linkstation (17W). Assuming perfect conditions
(which are unlikely) you'll save maybe 10W with the linkstation. That's
87kWh/year, assuming a cost of $0.10/kWh that's a whopping $8.70 saved
per year. I leave it to you to determine if that's worth a significant
increase in hassle and decrease in performance.

It's also worth noting that the idle mini-itx (or linkstation for that
matter) with disks spun down would cost around $13 per year to run.
