I had an NSLU2 about 9 months ago, with a Lacie drive and it would never spin down. USB mass stoage appears as a SCSI drive and there is no provisions to spin down drives in the driver (at least there wasn't months ago). That was one of several reasons I went to a kurobox from the slug.
BTW, I'm currently serving up lightly compressed MP3's with my Kurobox to a single squeezebox and it's working very well. I'm starting a reburn of all my albums in FLAC format. We'll see how it works with those, but I can vouch that with MP3's the Kurobox has no problems.
