Folk here have more faith in Windows than I do. :-)

Microsoft just proved a few weeks ago that even a passive data file
(.wmf files) is capable of launching a virus if opened by Windows. I've
been programming for years; the bottom line is I don't trust Windows and
I trust it even less if it doesn't get updated frequently. There are too
many holes and they are triggered in too many unexpected ways, and a
server that's going to hold backups and media files collected from a
variety of sources is just too likely to pick up something nasty.
