Installing Ubuntu desktop or server (headless) is dead simple and adding SC is as simple as editing a text file, saving the change and running an update. There is really nothing to it and as for complexity my folks and in-laws are in their 60s and have been happily running Ubuntu on their PCs for a number of years now. I carried out these installations at least 3-4 releases ago and have yet to get a single support/ how do I inquiry. They regularly use their PCs for email, web-surfing, word processing and Skype...out of the box, Ubuntu is the kiddie pool!
Something nobody has mentioned is that SC runs a hell of a lot faster under Linux. The Web UI is a lot snappier and rescans are many, many times faster, so much so that I would never elect to run SC in a Windows environment. -- egd Internet forums: conclusive proof depth of gene pool is indeed variable, monkeys can be taught to cut code, and world peace is utterly unrealistic...
