Every OS has it's annoyances, to pretend otherwise is misleading. I'm not going to get into yet another XP vs Linux vs OSX vs whatever argument, but I stand by the opinion that if you want the lowest stress solution it's typically to stick with what you know (whatever that happens to be). If you're interested in seeing what else is out there (and may or may not be better overall) that's great - but assume it's going to take some time & energy to learn what you already knew on the old system. Most people will, I assume, opt for the path of least resistance.
