That's a good question, and I have to think back to remember how RS
originally got some excitement going with Real 3D version 2 (or was it
version 1x?). Anyway, they came out of the ring swinging, as they say, with
several very impressive features (some of them firsts for a PC program, such
as built-in collision detection). Yes, over the years RS has put in many
(though not all) of the features seen in much costlier programs, such as GI,
Caustics, SDS, NURBS, Surface/rendering languages (RPL, javascript, VSL) and
such. But what we need is something that just makes people go "Holy s**t!
Look what this 'unknown' little program can do!". Maybe version 6 has
something in store for us that none of us has dreamed of... (is that
possible? ;) )
Time will tell.
