Try under File-->Preferences
Tab: Classes-->Wire Frame for Geometric Objects
MaxTextureWidth
MaxTextureHeight

set it to 2048

set Texture Quality in Properties->Wire tab to "None"

and reload the textures

should give back a 2048x2048 Texture in OGL view
(if the texture is 2048x2048 ;-)

Couldn't get it working at first: I noticed this doesn't work with separate materials, only with the object texture map. (properties -> col tab)
