OK, I don't post much (ever) to this list. But I'll give my thoughts on this one.
Struts is findementally a specialized servlet. It seems to me an architectural approach to consider, would be either a) implementing a servlet engine within Avalon, or b) working very hard on the container to container communication (i.e. JNDI as several folks have mentioned).
