Well, one misunderstanding there - my poor wording I think.

When you drag the query from your embedded Base file to the
Thunderbird Base file you do not drag it to an open table. You drag it to the table section of the main Base window.

That is what I did-- I dragged it to the table section of the main Base
window. But it wouldn't drag.

Hello Swarup,

I;m sorry but hopefully someone else can help you with this.
Apparently I have some badly broken installations of OpenOffice.org as I was positive that at one time I could update a Thunderbird Address book, but as of the moment I can't get it to work at all.

Is there someone who is familiar with this process, who could help. This
looks like the easiest way to accomplish the task, if only it would
work. Because I will need to be updating the address list on a regular
basis i.e. every day or two, so I need a process like this which is
potentially fast and easy.
Thank you,
Swarup

I haven't been following the whole discussion here, and I haven't ever tried exactly what you're doing, but I've done lots of copies back and forth between Base and Writer. Instead of trying to drag, you might try capturing the data explicitly by right-clicking the name of the source query in the Query section of the main Base window, then choosing the Copy option. You can then see if Paste (or Paste Special) operations have become available, either in the Table section of your other database, or in Writer or Calc where you can see what got picked up.
