Hi Alex,

I want to make some conciliatory remarks, because if or when I may make
a normative comment on these types of lists regarding the way something
should work, I always feel bad that I did. On the one hand, I do wish
that the software worked the way I wanted it to, but on the other hand I
am deeply appreciative of those who are involved creating it. Open
software is the need of the day, and I know there are not nearly as many
people involved as need to be. Especially in a module like Base, where
you have just a few really good people working hard to turn out
something that works well. I have followed the discussions as best I
could the last 6-8 months on the dba-users and -dev lists, and I can see
there are only a handful of people involved. I would like to heartily
thank those who have been working on Base development. Without you all,
doing any database work in Linux would be very difficult. And it may be
that most of you are actually using OO and Base in a Windows
environment. For those of us using Linux though, we watch with hopeful
regard for the day when the Linux platform will truly be ready for the
general public. And it is as much out of that inspiration as anything,
that I try to encourage where I can for the development of tools which
general people can use.
