It seems to me one shouldn't have to be an artist or
an engineer to subtly adjust it and adjust it until it is just right. I
tried to find the settings for the colors and distances for the other
fields in the form, but it didn't seem to show it. I'll have to play
with it some more. But it seems to me that getting all the fields to the
same setting should be pretty straightforward.
It is straightforward, you just need to work through it systematically,
because that's the only way I know, and I've been using the "Base"
module (I use that term loosely because it didn't really exist as a
separate entity before) since when OOo was still not even a twinkling in
Sun's eye, and StarDivision ruled the world :-) he, he, he.
In terms of alignment, and spacing you can select rows or columns of
semi-aligned fields and then apply an automatic alignment to them, that
does help speed things up a bit.
When I built my first form with OOo, all those years ago, it had 75
fields in it, a complete disaster from a db development point of view,
bearing in mind that the labels all had to be fine tuned as well, so 150
different twiddling operations. Fortunately, it is not something I will
ever do again, but the situation at that time demanded it.
I understand, most of the folks using this application are pretty savvy
with this stuff. But still...I can't help thinking that, well, couldn't
something as basic as this be made straightforward?
In theory yes, but it is probably better to have a database module that
actually works first before making it pretty with lots of bells,
whistles and brass knobs :-) And it might help if there were a hundred
developers all working only on the Base module <big smile>
