Let's give it a try.

o On an Ubuntu 8.04.1 system with the Ubuntu (U)OOo 2.4.1 installed I
added the word 'wallababy' (misspelling of wallaby) to the standard
dictionary - standard.dic. Which BTW in (U)OOo 2.4.1 is placed into your
profile in ~/.openoffice.org2/user/workbook/standard.dic

o In standard OOo 3.0 (default settings & new install) I verified that
'wallababy' was autodetected as a misspelling.

o I then completely uninstalled OOo 3.0 - including removing the
~/.openoffice.org profile and all openoffice related /opt folders.

o I then reinstalled OOo 3.0 and allowed it to transfer my OOo settings
over to the new install (Transfer personal data).

o I then opened the new OOo 3.0 with Writer and entered "Will I find a
wallababy here?" - and no misspellings were detected. So, I entered
another line: "How can I find out if I've missspelled something?" and
sure enough 'missspelled' showed the red wavy line marking it as a
misspelled word.

So, my conclusion is: if you back up your ~/.openoffice.org2/ folder,
install OOo 3.0 and allow 'Transfer personal data' you will indeed find
your added words that you've put in your standard.dic in your new OOo
3.0. Futher, OOo 3.0 will _not_ overwrite your ~/.openoffice.org2/
directory, and will instead create it's own ~/.openoffice.org directory.

The _only_ issues (that I am aware of) with the 'Transfer personal data'
was the transfer of extensions - see the bug that I referred to earlier
(when the site is working properly again).
