I used a workaround. The download feature did download the correct 3.01 file for my operating system (Ubuntu x86_64). So I went to ~/Desktop, untarred it, and just used dpkg to install it (with OOo closed). Essentially that is the same process as I used to install 3.0 in the first place, so I knew the drill.
