Ah, so I am not alone. OK, after sending the above comment it occurred to me that the problem might be related to the fact that I installed 3.0 using the .deb file downloaded from OOo, keeping 2.4.1 installed as well. Most people would opt to replace 2.4.1 with 3.0, but I did not. It would be interesting to hear if the other affected users did the same thing.
