Hadn't thought of that. Figured since there was an "Italic"
icon on the toolbar between the "Bold" and the Underline"
that that was where it was done.
I tried selecting, then "Format", "Character" - no italic
produced that way, either, even though under "Format", "Character"
I specifically selected (from the list) and applied "Italic".
It doesn't work whether I invoke it, then type, either.
This is really bizarre. And I'm not using some off-the-wall
obscure font, either - it's the good old default Bitstream Vera
Serif 12.
Maybe I've found a bug? Maybe it's time I upgraded anyway?

The icon usually works (never seen any reports of this kind of behavior
before), as does the Format > Character. Do the bolding and underlining
icons work? What happens if you change to a different font temporarily,
like Times New Roman?
