Nope. What I find convenient is what I find convenient. You don't
have any say in it. No debate.

Now that's the mature attitude. Speaks volumes about your personality,
doesn't it? And this from the same guy who, only a few messages
before,said on the same theme:

You're missing the point. What I or anyone else personally finds convenient is not subject to debate it is a personal decision. You have no say in what I find convenient, nor do I in what you find convenient.

The problem with that approach, "never top post", is that it sounds
too much like a some company, e.g. Microsoft, saying "do it our
way". It just isn't going to make some people receptive to your
message.

I and others have given *objective* reasons, independent from our
personal preferences, to never top post. They may be wrong, of
course, but we (I, at least), never said "do this because I like it
this way".

Since I was responding to someone who did explicitly say "never top post" you're missing the point again.

This makes it much easier, actually. Personally, I won't even bother
to read the rest of the message and just skip every message from you
from now on.

I will probably continue to read yours, since you have some good ideas, even though I don't agree with everything you write.

And when I have a moment, I'll also ask the moderators how in blazes,
on a list which is de facto the main window into the OOo community, a
list whose members are supposed to go to extremes to not create
confusion, anger or embarassment in newcomers, they allow anybody to
send to such users answers signed "Troll/Idiot"

That was the result of another discussion of top vs bottom posting. Another proponent of bottom posting, Dave Barton, wrote

_ "Come on Brewster, you are experienced and smart enough to know when _ you have hooked a troll, so don't keep feeding it.

_ Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level _ _ and beat you every time."

Of course that ended that discussion by taking away my last tactic. I couldn't possibly drag the discussion any farther down than he already had.

Other people proposing either that bottom posting is always right or top posting is always wrong have made similar personal attacks, sometimes while suggesting that people who don't agree with them are unreasonable.

I think you will agree that such people aren't going "to extremes to not create confusion, anger or embarassment in newcomers". Further, since they are sympathetic to your position, I think it would be appropriate for you to address the issue with them, if it actually matters by itself.

Does it actually matter to you by itself?
