Well, that's a good thing anyway. Since it appears Rob won't be able to supply a detailed walkthru, would mine suffice? I have the same basic problem: No icons were created and no Programs entry was made. XP Pro SP2+, P4, 512 RAM, lots of disk space, no known resource problems, no errors in Event Viewer (couple time-set warnings only), no known malware, no startup/shutdown problems, and system in VG condition the last couple months. I've also checked the MD5 hash with Digest-It 2004; cs is fine. I've already uninstalled/reinstalled once so don't mind doing it again. I didn't do a detailed cleanup for the reinstall (look for leftover folders, etc.) but I did turn off AV and malware detectors in case they were the problem. Anything specific prep-wise you'd like to see done before I do another reinstall? During install, I did not notice any chance to allow/disallow the creation of desktop icons & Programs entry and was watching for it to appear. If you give me any specifics for a walk-thru I'll make sure I cover them completely. Basically, to install, I just click the OOo_2.3.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe file and follow the screen directions. Which reminds me: I already had the JRE 1.6 but OO.o installed it anyway, both times. I don't recall whether the uninstall removed it; didn't think to check on it. >From here it feels like an OOo problem but if it's cockpit error of some kind I'm more than willing to assist however I can.
