I was helping another user yesterday and I came across a situation

could not see for myself.
Once the install had run I got her to use My Computer and go and find
the swriter program and create an icon on her desktop for her to run
it and it did run. I also showed her to use >File >New to create other
types of output. No doubt I will hear if she has any further problems.

Has anyone else had this happen to them under windows or under another
operating system?

Thanks

Yes, it seems that's "how it is".
It didn't create desktop, quicklaunch or Programs entries for my Win XP Pro. Actually, I have posted a question about it over on .general so perhaps you might want to watch there to see if there is anything to be done about it. Seems like a simple thing to do so I was wondering if it was something I did or an install shortcoming. I only posted it today so haven't seen any responses yet. IMO it's an install shortcoming, but ... those might be famous last words<g>.

Twayne

It is surely not a general OOo problem that it doesn't create a link to the Office in the Startmenu - Program folder. For recreating this we need a detailed walk through description how you installed OOo.

I came into this half way through with someone who had tried to install OpenOffice and failed. As I was not physically there, I cannot give a definitive sequence of what happened. I am simply asking if anyone else has had this problem and if not then it must be something peculiar about this person's setup.
