Once the install had run I got her to use My Computer and go and find

Nope, never on Windows (sometimes on linux when I forget to do desktop
integration :-). Could it be that she just missed it in the list? Is it
there now?
Sometimes a user will be looking on the programs above the "Programs"
list instead of actually in the Programs menu. Alternately, they look
for the program in alpha order & miss it because a new install gets
placed at the bottom of the list. Have her go back into Start|Programs
and then right-click on any of the programs there. Then have her select
"Sort by Name" and see if OpenOffice.org 2.3 magically appears in her
list of programs.
If it's still missing, then the install may have been corrupted & you
might try having her reinstall.

We were trying a reinstall as she had already had problems. I will see
if she has any problems with my shortcut
