Thanks for the additional tips. Took a look at it yesterday and found a
couple interesting things....the jets are still stock although the needles
have been changed...(didn't look to see what they are or what they are set at
yet) also, the front carbs were NOT seated fully into the rubber joint. Fixed
that, took out the pilot screw and blew out the passage (what a pain getting
that out!)...sprayed liberally with carb cleaner down the throat and put
everything back together. Dramatic improvement, but still just a little delay
in response revving from idle... No.2 carb is also much noisier than the rest
and I didn't have time to see if I could get them synch'd this time
around...hope to do that Saturday...and a compression test as well.
Got another question though...is the pilot screw supposed to have an Oring in
there with the spring and washer (since the guy that worked on the carbs did
such a lousy job putting them back on, I dont trust that he didn't also
"lose" a part or two in the process) and is one and a half turns out on the
screw normal? The jet kit calls for three + turns.......(but since the jets
haven't really been changed, I'm not sure about this...seems like it might be
a little rich).
Thanks again. By the way TC, I didn't take offence at the "can you spell"
reference...I realize my ignorance and readily (though not proudly) 'fess up.
But what the hey....if everybody fixed bikes who'd take care of the
computers?
Tom
