Dear List Lurkers (particularly Rion :^),
Since my man Rick has bated me into this conversation, I will now proceed
to take the bate and become ensnared in this trap.
On Sun, 15 Jun 2008, Rick White wrote:
I have Dapper and Hardy (plus my /home directory) installed on

handiwork).
An act of inspired desperation was to sub-partition good brother White's
hard drive, ***make an image of his dapper drive for safekeeping*** on
one partition, and another partition with Hardy Heron (8.04) on it. IMHO
the production version of hardy will be 8.06 or so...
I like Hardy but keep Dapper around for a couple of
reasons, the most outstanding is that Hardy comes with Firefox 3
beta (recently upgraded to RC1) and the new browser is NOT yet
compatible with my bank's online access.
The bad news is that openSSH libraries are being held back in Dapper due
to the oops in the distributed source... That said big Rick has nothing to
worry about here since he uses the openSSH libraries for "transec" and not
"compusec"(gee I love that kind of talk :^). BTW brother Rick has very
few Nuclear Missile Launch Codes (NMLC) on his system.
I hope when he gets online, he'll have advice you can actually
use. Just wanted to warn you about a possible frying pan=>fire
situation.
Note Rion, that all this is contingent on having the hard drive space to
make the following partitions:
1. Backup of current situation
2. Separate /home partition, for ease of marriage to either system.
3. Space for the new heron to roost upon, about 5 Gig.
I have had problems sync-ing my my Evolution mail from Dapper to
Hardy, also. This seems fixable, but isn't as yet.
Now this hurts. I thought that I got that running. This is clearly due
to consultant incompetence (or in my case incontinence :^). Clearly this
must be resolved.
Otherwise, I can now migrate from D to H (skipping E-F-G, woo hoo!) at
my leisure.
Thanks for the good and wise words Rick!
What do you think Rion?
Regards,
Flint
