I am not sure, but would be willing to bet that this is because Edgy was
not a Long Term Support release, as Dapper was and Hardy is.  Given that
there have been three new releases since Edgy, and Canonical never
planned to support it for more than 6 months, or whatever their non-LTS
policy is, I can understand why they took it down.

I have a Feisty disc you can have if you're looking for the f-step in
your upgrade path.  But I agree with others that you might be better off
 backing up and starting with a fresh Hardy install, since going through
multiple dist-upgrades is going to mean a lot of download-and-install
time spent on software you're just going to replace a few minutes later.
