This is a consequence of current policy (which is not likely to change, AFAIK). Policy for stable releases is that updates can only be made for critical bug and security fixes. Thus, a stable release can not transition from FF2 to FF3. 8.04 is an LTS (long-term support) release, which means it is supported on the desktop for up to three years. Naturally, no one will want to be running FF2 in 2010, so a commitment to that version has to be made at release time. It's one of those situations where releas timing was not ideal. I should note that 8.04 has FF2 packages that can be installed along-side FF3, so if users want to use FF2, it's only an apt-get away. I'm sure Gentoo doesn't have policies, so this isn't a problem for you, Josh. :) -Forest -- Forest Bond http://www.alittletooquiet.net http://www.pytagsfs.org
