Ha. Should I be pleased or peeved that one of the first in the slew of replies from the Man is one saying I'm nuts? <grin>
I think that you did ask if you were nuts. :)
I think the *best* thing to do is this - do it right, and put intools.Leave the existing one for backwards compatibility and easy of examples (so you don't have to go get both just play with it.)
Geir, nice to see you back...but geez get some sleep man, I'm not sure but I think you're agreeing with the nutty dude?
If so, I'll be happy to submit the [trivial] patches and doc changes.
To be make sure I'm clear: the modified proposal is to copy the VelocityServlet code to Tools, opt. deprecate the core copy of VelocityServlet, incorporate the Servlet section in the Velocity Main Dev Guide into the Tools Dev guide, and have the Main docs simply point to this new location?
Well, I guess what I was thinking was to *not* just move it, but start again - try to combine best practices in making something more useful for real life. I have stopped using the VelocityServlet because it doesn't do much for me in my real life. Rather, I use a servlet model where introspection is used and the action is taken from the URL. It's really trivial, but it works for me.
However, I am sure the model works for others, and it really is a nice simple way to show people how velocity works in the servlet environment - and you don't even have to understand how servlets work. Magically, the method is called, you fill the data, and return the template.
?Cheers, Timo P.S. Glad to hear from you again :-) Now, hey, howabout that velocity/tools/docs dir? <grin>
