The current issue of American Angler (Jan/Feb 2003) has an article on putting together a streamside tying kit by Dave(?) Klausmeyer. Part of the article is a review of commercially available kits, boxes, vises, etc, but there are also tips on how to select materials, stowage and so on.
going to have to get that and give it a look.
