John, I have tied my own leaders but find it a little time consuming and I usually forget to tie them until just before I'm ready for a trip. I'm working on furled leaders now .. oh yeah not to time consuming...I quess I like the creativity aspect.
I've used the Maxima leader and tippet material for the leaders I have tied. Charlie Meck's book "Fishing Small Streams" has a chapter on leaders and different forumulas to tie. I Know George Harvey has forumulas as well but I can't think of the book it's in. I Some formulas from a presentation one of my FF friends did on leaders they work well. If you like I can scan them and send them to you.
