John,
I've used tapered leaders for years, but
a few years ago started tying my own again after seeing an article in Fly
Fisherman magazine about George Harvey's new formula using limp mono. The
first place I used on was on Sullivan's Pond at Silver Creek. I caught 4
or 5 fish, which isn't bad for the pond. The leader was on a four weight
Sage and as I recall, was less than nine feet including the tippet. It
turned over really well and didn't spook any fish.
I should still have the formula here
somewhere....
