Ok everyone, this subject is getting a bad rap and out of hand. Rob, I'm not sure what type of jigs these " poachers" are using but if I were to put money on a guess I'll bet the type of jigs that you are referring to are really snagging trebel hooks( these have a sinker molded to the bottom to help get the snagging hook out farther and down to the bottom faster) and they are not made to be thrown with a fly rod.
I think that the 2 types of "jigs" are totally different and therefore should not be lumped together, besides the jigs we are speaking of could definitely bring a very large salmon or trout without breaking off.
If this idea of using jigs ( anything under 1/80 oz. - 1/327 oz.) on a fly rod being a cardinal sin then I am guilty as charged, as I do use jigs on my fly rod, but only for panfish and not for trout.
Rob, let's try and get the facts straight before arguing a point.
