I have never done this but have thought about it from time to time. The
clearancing has to do with making room for the larger outer radius of the inner
CV joints.

Subject: [vintagvw] Swingaxle to IRS conversion

Before long, I hope to start doing a modest restoration on a 1963 Beetle for my

wife to drive. I had planned to sit the bug on an IRS pan, but after doing
some

reading, it appears that it's fairly straight-forward to get the brackets and

weld them onto the pan.

I see that Jester's Parts in Ashland, NE rents the jig for $25 and he's only 70

miles away from me. Has anyone else here ever done the conversion and have any

comments on it? The only other thing I've read is that the frame horns might

need to beat down a little bit to allow clearance for the axles.

Thanks for the commentary.

Erin
