Would be great to use an old cv or something similar to press a rounded indent into the horns so as to get a nice round indent without any stress points where cracks might start?
I'd bet Bill May has some sort of ideas on that?? If the clearance isn't all that much, then I have no problem having fun with a sledge hammer and putting a welded ring around the dent to prevent fatigue cracking and the like. If it's not that much clearance that is needed, grinding and welding seems overkill. I believe if I put the pan up on saw horses, I could slide my shop press over the horns and using a piece of shaft as a mandrel, could probably just press the indentation in. 20 tons oughta do it dontcha think? :) NQ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike" <[email protected]> To: "Air-Cooled Volkswagen Discussion List" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, April 03, 2011 2:23 PM Subject: Re: [vintagvw] Swingaxle to IRS conversion > Hot Vw's did an article on this recently.
