I find it difficult to endorse the NFB's high-priced applications when there are several applications which can be found for much less money. Considering they are an organization which preports to be working for the benefit of blind people I think it incongruous for them to have started out charging over $3,000.00 for their OCR app. Part of the problem for them is that their application appears to be using, at this point anyway, old technology. I also feel that there is money enough or proffit enough from Kurzweil for them to have offered the product at a substantially lower price considering their position in the market place. Their stance, is not unlike the position of Freedom Scientific, charge as much as the market will bear rather than making it available at a reasonable price for the consumer, but then you're looking at endeavors which appear to be going after government moneys not the consumers' money.

Sure, if you are willing to pay extremely high prices for the KNFB Reader interface, and you can find a large enough number of other blind people who are also willing to pay the high price, KNFB Reading Technologies will develop the app for you. For the original KNFB Reader, which was sold for $2500 several years ago, NFB started with a development grant of $300'000 which they received from the Federal government. Considering all the advances in technology since then, you should probably be able to get the product developed for around $75'000 or so. I have asked this question before. Is there no good OCR app? I mean some good app like the Text Scout or the KNFB Reader? Is it not high time that we IOS users got a decent one? I have tried at least a dozen applications but none of them are even half as good as the two mentioned earlier. Any suggestions as to how we can get reader onto IOS?
