I don't use a case either. With the 4 I did because it felt more bulky
and cumbersome in my pocket. I had it in a belt clip. To me the 5 and
5s feel a lot more comfortable to just put in a pants or coat pocket.
I rarely drop the phone so am  not worried about damaging it. My wife
on the other hand has it in a case because the black phone is hard to
see and she drops and loses things to easily. This has nothing to do
with partial vision because she is totally sighted.
