Since configure.com defaults to MMK if both are available, I think I
should do the same thing.

That's a really elegant way to do it.  I'm a bit skittish about
putting in nifty features like this merely because I don't want
build_perl.com to become a 6.000-line behemoth like configure.com,
nor do I want it to duplicate any configure.com functionality it
doesn't need to.  Thanks for the suggestion.
