I've got a few rules I go by.

The first one is inviolate: If I am shown or told about a spot by
someone else who asks me not to say anything. I don't. Period. I don't
even take anyone to the spot unless I have been given permission.

The next situations I'm listing vary as to, 1. Who I am talking to- do I
owe him one? Has he kept past information to himself etc? Is he catch
and bonk or catch and release? 2. Who bought the scotch, me or him? (If
it happens to be a "her",I use the "elbow test". :)) And, 3. Are we
talking about salmon or steelhead in the salt or passing up a river, or
are we talking about specific spots for bottom fish or
trout/bass/crappie?

For salmon or steelhead in the salt or passing through, (I don't fish
spawning beds or tell anyone where they are.) I will tell anyone
everything I knew yesterday. It doesn't matter. Site, depth, bait,
etc. will have changed by today anyway. We will both have to figure out
the new location and pattern.

For specific spots, I am a little more reticent. I will gladly share
information regarding popular places like where the tail end of the fish
planting truck can be found, but will seldom share the location of a few
creeks and lakes that are not often fished, especially if I think that
additional pressure could upset the ecosystem, without first extracting
a blood oath of secrecy.

If any of you need any information about Oregon, see #2 above.
