All that it does is when Windows "senses" an error, it will automatically reboot your PC. IMHO it goes back to the old days when there was a problem you were told to "reboot". Windows is doing it for you. I have read many places, and it has always been my practice as well, to uncheck this. It's not much fun when Windows decides to "help" you by rebooting, when you are right in the middle of something.
