Ann,
Hey, I'll give you $6 for it! ;-)
I really don't know how much they're worth, but I'm sure someone on this list
knows where you point you, if they haven't already. You could always find a
Computer Renaissance if they have them in your area. There's a map on their
web site, http://www.computerrenaissance.com. I've never bought or sold
anything there, though, so I don't know how well they pay. I've got an old
Okidata Laserline 6 (I think it's called), and this Oki "tank" dot matrix I
might take there someday.
The tourism center just had me do a proposal to upgrade their machine, a way-
off-brand "Blue Star" 486SX-33. It was going to cost them well over $1000 so
I suggested they buy a different computer before they spent that kind of money
on a machine that I guessed was worth only a couple hundred dollars even
though it was probably a $2500 unit new 5 years ago.
At Best Buy this week-end there was an HP P2 333, 64 MB RAM, 8 G HD, DVD, K56
flex modem, 512 K cache, AGP graphics, 3D graphics, 4 MB video RAM, stereo,
speakers, video phone send and receive, and 17" monitor for $2000. My jaw
dropped, as I spent more than that for a 266 in March, but it had a Fire GL
1000 Pro video card with 8 MB RAM.
Given that there's no money in selling them, I just hang onto my old computers
and keep one for Win 3.1 and now one for Linux. Makes keeping fresh-minded
for tech support a lot simpler for me. Plus I'm getting a pretty cool network
going here at home! I'm running out of dressers and desks to put them on,
however. . . .
Now to figure out how to network a Linux machine with a Win 3.1 and a Win 95
machine. Next I'm getting a MAC portable (someday, maybe). Life will get
more interesting then too! I'm turning into a knowledge sponge hanging around
you guys!
