True.. but what happens if you get a bad sector ?  Or you want to
install more programs  (need more source code space) ?  It's hard
to adjust things when they live in a single partition.

If you run an ISP and you have a Home partition (where User
Accounts) are stored.. If you only have a / and a SWAP partition,
how do you easily move/swap what the home partition is ?

True. .The reason LINUX has take off is that there is a central
god, I mean person (Linus Torvaldes) to rally around.  

Also the fact that many different companies sell LINUX is a good
feature (while FreeBSD is a single source).  The fact that only 1
place controls the "release" is great.  It's not released untill
ALL features are sure to work with the release

However, as you said.. They are similar and it is a matter of choice.
