Reality shows no favorites. Nor forgives attempts to divert it's
path. It is humans, who soften its blows, sheltering others. And who, on
occasion, find paths that lead them ahead of the crowd. But there, they
travel much alone, more subject to the randomness of reality; and less the
comfort of others.

Would you more readily buy expensive quirky technology from a man who
wore a threadbare coat; or a man in a good looking suit, who clearly
earned a decent renumeration at his trade?

The cult of business is much like any other cult -- favoring those
who are like them, and shunning those who are not as visibly adept (and
renumerated) at serving the needs of others.

Molloy, in his books about clothing, describes the many tests he
performs to see which sets of clothing evoke the more positive responses
in our society. He sees some of these responses already taking shape in
kindergarten, particularly to the dark blue suit, white shirt, and dark
tie. I strongly recommend his books, particularly the last one, "Beating
the Competition" and having fun doing it, or some such title.

Having several times faced gun wielding police and security officers,
I have always been amazed at the power of a white shirt and tie to make
them step back and hide their guns, long before I open my mouth. Of
course, I was never doing anything wrong, just in the wrong place at the
wrong time. Never was I told to move on, though the officers sure did
move on amidst profuse apologies!
