I agree. It reminds me of a bad philosophy class, like the one I had my
freshman year in college. "We'll have no grades, no assignments, you decide
what you will do, how you'll do it, and what you'll be graded."

Also, the interview reminded me of a couple jobs I tried to get before I
landed my first 5-figure job recently and decided maybe I was going to survive
in this business. I prepared for an interview for a communications director
position with a power company by drafting (and submitting with my application)
brochures, ads, and a multi-media presentation. I got flushed before I even
got an interview. Turns out they hired some land surveyor who was related to
the secretary.

For a community education director job, I devised a community and business
questionaiire, learned everything there was to know about comm ed that I could
find on the web, wrote a sample 5-year strategic plan, etc. In the end it was
too intimidating for them (so I was told by the school board president), but
it was fun to see my work get implemented. I keep reading in their
newsletter how they've done one thing after another that I suggested, right
down to the nitty gritty details.

So maybe at worst TJ gave them some ideas about how to do things right.
