I am not being sarcastic. I have been on a number of mailing lists,
and they are conducting a reasonable non-name calling discussion. You
have no idea of some of the things I have been asked to quell, or people
others have asked me to help get kicked off other lists. (Or some of the
battles that I have fought with terminally depressed characters who insist
the world is not only flat, but concave.) In comparison, you guys are ok!
As for emoticons, I agree. But then, I am a suit and tie kind of
guy.

It is indeed sad that few people hold elegance and clarity as virtues
in code, or language.
The most productive thing the Japanese do, is to write code for
reusibility. For that, one needs a higher degree of clarity in the code,
and vagueness in the applicability. I joke that I write the vaguest code
possible. By that, I mean the most generic, that it may be used with a
broader set of data than one may expect.
