Yeah, I've been able to get the "hey it works" Apache page from my NT, too.
I can ping my NT from the Linux box and vice versa, but I still haven't
figured out the magic combination to get the Linux box to show up in the NT
Network Neighborhood. I've got Samba running on the Linux and have tinkered
with the smb.conf file and rebooted NT a half dozen times with different
network configs, but I'm at the point where I'm thinking boat anchor instead
of fun machine...

I'd offer you advice, but since I'm still wading the murky waters, I'm not
sure what would help and what would hinder. If you manage to get the two
systems working together, plz let me know....and I'll do the same.

and if there are any Linux-knowledgable people hanging out watching this
while shucking peanuts and giggling, feel free to chime in...
