Hi,
Thanks to everyone who chimed in during my mini network setup problems with
my NT and my new Linux box (Franko, Jordan, Ronnie, Peter, Matthew, et al...
It took about a day and a half of part-time research and tinkering to get my
boxes to communicate the way I wanted them to (I wanted the Linux box to
show up in the "network neighborhood" on the NT, wanted to be able to
telnet, ftp and http between the boxes and wanted to control MySQL on the
Linux box using an ODBC driver with Cold Fusion on the NT). If anyone on the
list plans on attempting the same for the first time and wants my input, let
me know. I'll post what I learned, though as they say, "your mileage may
vary"....
The main cool thing is the ColdFusion/MySQL setup. As I mentioned, I'm using
Cold Fusion on the NT to control MySQL on the Linux box via the MySQL ODBC
driver on the NT (available at the various MySQL mirror sites). I'm about to
kick into testing phase with the setup, comparing it to MS SQL Server for
the exact same CF/ODBC tasks. I'll let you all know what I find out. If I
end up going MySQL it'll save me, oh, $3k +.....
Thanks again for the help, folks,
Jack
