I’m the coordinator of Valencian translation… When my translation began, the
name of my translation was “Valencian” but a few years ago this name was
changed without my permission to “Valencian Catalan” or “Valencian (southern
Catalan)”. Since that moment the problem continues… At the beginning I thought
to write this problem in the forum, but now I think it’s better by email in
order to cause the least polemic as possible. I propose you, developers, an
accord… We, the valencian translators, will forget this situation and we will
accept the change of locale to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (from “valencia_ES”) if the
name of my translation, “Valencian”, is restored by the following reasons:

Reasons:
1. The name “Valencian” is the official name of my translation following the
Spanish laws (Statute of Valencian Community support by Spanish Constitution
refrended by all the Valencian and Spanish people respectively). The name
“catalan-valencian” is a confusing name (there are another translation in
Catalan) that follows political ideas (pro-Catalan). Every Spanish people know
what is Valencian (language or dialect for someone) and Wesnoth should let
freedom of thinking. The name of “Valencian” is a neutral and non-political
name and ¡the legal name!. Wesnoth shouldn’t say what you have to think about
Valencian.
2. There are theories about the origins of Valencian which said that Valencian
could come from ancient Catalan (known as Romance) with influence of Aragonese
and Mozarab. That´s why Valencian and Catalan are seemed, but there are other
languages like Galician/Portuguese, Czech/Slovak, Serbian/Croatian and many
others which are seemed but they are respected languages with their own
translations.
3. Valencian, in fact, has its own literature in s.XV famous in all Spain
written in Valencian language (the writers said this in theirs books) and has
its own orthography (developed since many years ago) and its own vocabulary
(seemed to the Catalan, but different)
4. Nobody should make changes in the translations without saying nothing to the
coordinator of a translation and without consensus.

In conclusion, following the reason 1 (the law), 2 (the evolution of the
language), 3 (the history of the language) and 4 (nobody can’t make whatever
they want without consensus): I propose a solution, we will accept definitely
the locale [EMAIL PROTECTED] if the name “Valencian” is restored, letting
freedom of thinking about Valencian… ones think it’s a language, others that
it’s a dialect, but Wesnoth shouldn’t possicionate if it’s a language or
dialect; Wesnoth should represent all the ideas, the freedom of thinking,
That's why Wesnoth should use the name “Valencian”, a neutral and clear name.

Remember: We propose a neutral, clear and non-political name (also legal name)
and we will accept the actual locale and forget all this problem in order to
find a good solution for the most of people.

Coordinator of Valencian translation

PS: I would like defending this proposal if it was attacked by someone in a
forum or chat, in order to find a good solution for the most of people. And I
would like that the accord is respected by all parts.

PPS: It's true that there are valencians who are translating into catalan
too... I can translate into English and I'm not english... I know English but I
don't use English with my family, these valencians know catalan but they don't
speak with their families as they write in their translations. Furthermore, in
Wesnoth there is freedom...valencians who want translating into catalan
following their ideas can do it and valencians who want translating into the
same language that they speak with their families can do it. Is there any
problem? Freedom is welcome.
