Hi Don:  Preferably all three (course, peers, and instructor) provide incentive for learning...and I would probably add students become more confident and competent if they become comfortable with finding and evaluating necessary information for continuing growth including "older" modes like books and personal contacts with experts and OER's and so gain confidence in self-direction.  JMcKnight
