If I remember the early part of this thread properly, Bill's direction will
take you to Volume Control on my XP Pro machine also.  Once getting there, I
can click Options - Properties - Record button - and put a check mark in
front of my microphone option.  Then, I can adjust the volume for my
microphone.  I use an older version of Dragon on occasion.  (Avance AC97
Audio).
