if you are just changing phones and not plans, they will not touch any
option on the account except to add services you need (if it's a picture
phone, they'll add picture messaging package for example) so it should
remain grandfathered.

Back when one phone was used by my older daughter at college, there was a
promo for 100 free texts a month for like 6 months. It was supposed to
expire... she broke the phone and bought a replacement.. .they kept the free
text on it. She graduated from nearly college 2 years ago and gave the phone
back when she moved to ohio. I gave it to her younger sister who was in
college. We replaced the phone under new every 2 last fall and she still
gets free text... on a promo that expired at least 3 years ago. (It's not
like Verizon doesn't get enough money from me each month - 3 accounts, 7
lines - i should get 100 free text on each phone since only the 3 used by
the kids actually use text for more than one or two messages a month.)
