Interesting that you should mention that program ! Bill.   Under XP, I 
have a stick of ram that I know is bad !  It doesn't find it !  However 
if I boot with a win98 floppy it tells me that I have bad ram at 
address XYZ !!

Memtest always gives me the same address for the bad bits ! 

Oddly enough XP doesn't crash when that stick is in place,  but win98 on 
the same machine always does !!  Linux always refuses to run when that 
stick is in there as well.  That behaviour confused the hell out of me 
when it first happened !!  Now I use it as a test piece.!!!!
